Frequently Asked Questions

What does communications have to do with DEI?

“Language is very powerful. Language does not just describe reality. Language creates the reality it describes.” - Bishop Desmond Tutu

What is Inclusive Language?

Inclusive language embraces language that is free from judgments, stereotypes, subtle discrimination, and negative messages. Language that “acknowledges diversity, conveys respect to all people, is sensitive to differences, and promotes equal opportunities.” by the Linguistic Society of America.

What is an Inclusive Language Guide?

  • The Inclusive Language Guide serves two primary purposes:
    • Employees & People Managers: The guide serves as a 24/7 confidential resource for employees and people managers to refer to for guidance on inclusive language and improve communication skills to build connection and respectful relationships with colleagues.
    • Content Creators: The guide is the agreed upon approach for our content creators as they ideate, design, produce, review and publish content.
  • This is our guide, our social agreement to manifest inclusion and belonging in our workplace.
  • The guide helps us put our values into practice in every conversation, team meeting and decision moments.
  • This guide will become standard just like Brand guidelines.
